The storks take up their summer quarters at the Bois Joli campsite in Vendée!

At Camping Le Bois Joli and its lagoon, we are lucky enough to welcome very special exotic guests every year, which makes us unique in Europe!

These special visitors are migratory birds from the west coast of Africa. From the first days of February, they faithfully return to the Bois Joli Vendée campsite to nest and reproduce, enjoying the tranquility of our environment.

Every year, several storks are born on the campsite. Even the storks think our campsite is the perfect place for a family vacation! This is an astonishing fact, isn't it?

The White Stork is known to be a migratory bird. Before the cold season arrives, generally in August, they leave for warmer destinations. Young storks stay in these countries for 3 years, then return to their home region once they reach sexual maturity.

As for adult storks, they return faithfully every spring.

It is interesting to note that contrary to popular belief, the migration of the white stork is not due to cooling temperatures, but rather to a lack of food during the bad season.

Do you want to meet the animals of the Marais Breton Vendéen? Our suggestions for walks in the heart of the marsh will allow you to discover the white stork and its environment. Whether you prefer to explore on your own or be accompanied by CLAC volunteers, come learn more about the life and habits of this magnificent wading bird, which has been present on our territory for three decades.
